Parker Field as part of it\u2019s \u201cThe Year of Cleveland\u201d festivities. <\/P><P>In his recent State of the University address, Dr. John M. Hilpert, Delta State\u2019s President,&nbsp; announced in conjunction with Delta State University\u2019s 80<SUP>th<\/SUP> academic year and in recognition of a positive town and gown relationship for the past eight decades, the 2005-2006 university term has been designated, \u201cThe Year of Cleveland.\u201d <\/P><P>&nbsp;\u201cNearly all colleges and universities in this country exist within the boundaries of a municipality, but we, at Delta State University, know there is no better host community than Cleveland, Mississippi. Cleveland is alive with promise, and we are proud to be participating citizens,\u201d Hilpert offered. \u201cWe\u2019re grateful for the cooperation and support that have always characterized the relationship.\u201d <\/P><P>The fireworks show is just one of the many thrilling and dynamic events to be held throughout the year to commemorate \u201cThe Year of Cleveland.\u201d Delta State University, in cooperation with \u201cThe Year of Cleveland\u201d steering committee, is in the planning stages of more events, including the second annual community recognition luncheon; a Veteran\u2019s Day celebration; an essay contest; an Easter egg hunt, and many more. \u201cThe Year of Cleveland\u201d will be a 12-month celebration culminating in Sept. 2006. <\/P><P>Ned Mitchell, who Hilpert acknowledged as \u201cone our community\u2019s prominent citizens\u201d and \u201cone of our most committed alumni,\u201d is chairing \u201cThe Year of Cleveland\u201d committee, and is excited about the opportunity. <\/P><P>\u201cI think this a wonderful thing for Delta State to do. The community and the University have always been so intertwined and worked so beautifully together. We\u2019ve gained synergy from one another, and I think \u201cThe Year of Cleveland\u201d will be just another shining example of that,\u201d Mitchell added. \u201cWe hope to have a number of activities planned and encourage as much community and university participation as possible.\u201d<\/P><P>The fireworks will begin at the conclusion of the Statesmen\u2019s football game, which is set to kick-off at 6 p.m. inside Travis E. Parker Field.
