The Alumni Association staff will visit New York City, Atlanta and Washington D.C. for the annual Mississippi picnics this June.<\/p>\n<p>The Mississippi Society of Georgia\u2019s annual Mississippi in the Park is June 6 at Chastain Park. The picnic is from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. There are a variety of activities planned this year, including a golf tournament and an Atlanta Braves game. The group will also award a scholarship for a Georgia resident who will be attending a Mississippi school in the fall. For more information on this event, visit the society\u2019s website <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mssocietyofga.org\">www.mssocietyofga.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe annual Atlanta\u2019s Mississippi in the Park provides an opportunity for Mississippians who now reside in the Greater Atlanta area to identify back with their home state,\u201d said Jeffrey Farris, director of Alumni Affairs. \u201cThe event provides an opportunity for colleges and universities to connect with their alumni and friends who live in the area. Delta State alumni come out in droves each year to enjoy live entertainment, catfish, artwork and fellowship with one another.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 36<sup>th<\/sup> annual New York-Mississippi picnic in Central Park is June 13 from noon to 6 p.m. This year\u2019s event will be held at Center Road at the 72<sup>nd<\/sup> Street and 5<sup>th<\/sup> Avenue entrance, which is between the Naumberg Bandshell and Sheeps Meadow. This year\u2019s theme is Elvis in the Park, Celebrating 80 Years of The King of Rock &amp; Roll. Live music will be provided, and fried catfish will be served. For more information, visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mississippisociety.org\">www.mississippisociety.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe annual New York Picnic in the Park continues to grow each year, bringing out more and more of our Delta State alumni and friends living or visiting the area,\u201d said Jordan Thomas, assistant alumni director. \u201cI always enjoy meeting and visiting with everyone who has a connection to Delta State, and I am looking forward to seeing what the D.C. picnic has to offer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Scholarship funds have been established for all three areas. The picnics also have a Facebook event page under Statesmen Graduates.<\/p>\n<p>Each picnic will have representatives from Mississippi including the majority of the state\u2019s public and private institutions of higher learning. Delta State will have representatives from campus to provide updates, promotional items, information from admissions and other campus departments and much more. This also provides an opportunity for alumni to connect with their alma mater and refer a student to attend Delta State.<\/p>\n<p>In true Magnolia State fashion, fried catfish and sweet tea will be served at all three events.
