Delta State is introducing the Kent Wyatt Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) summer camp this year.<\/p>\n
The Department of Biological Sciences and the Department of Mathematics will offer an interdisciplinary science and math summer program for students entering grades 7-8. The camp will take place July 13-17 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. on the campus of Delta State.<\/p>\n
Dr. Ellen Green, chair of biological sciences, said the STEM camp will offer interactive activities that take learning beyond the typical school experience.<\/p>\n
“There has been a recognized need, not only in the Mississippi Delta but nationally, for greater emphasis on STEM education,” said Green. “We have developed modules that are hands-on, inquiry-based science and math experiences that will enhance science and math understanding for the junior high school student.”<\/p>\n
The camp was named in honor of President Emeritus Kent Wyatt for his 50 years of service to the institution. Wyatt also earned a degree in mathematics education at Delta State.<\/p>\n
