The Breast Education and Early-detection Project (B.E.E.P.) at Delta State University recently participated in the\u00a0Pearl Project Health Fair in Greenville, Miss.<\/p>\n
The annual event is\u00a0sponsored by the Greenville Chapter of the Eliza Pillars Registered Nurses Association of Mississippi. This year’s event was was held at the Masonic Lodge in Greenville, MS on March 21.<\/p>\n
The association is named after\u00a0Eliza Pillars who was the first black registered nurse employed by the Mississippi Department of Health. The group supports professional nursing across the state of Mississippi.<\/p>\n
Gail Bailey, B.E.E.P. project coordinator, provided literature concerning breast cancer awareness to participants at the fair.<\/p>\n
B.E.E.P. focuses on raising awareness of breast cancer and breast health, and increasing the number of women who adopt early cancer detection methods such as monthly exams and annual mammograms. The project provides breast health education workshops and funding for clinical exams and mammograms for low-income, uninsured or underinsured women.<\/span><\/p>\n
