{"id":62857,"date":"2015-02-23T14:20:51","date_gmt":"2015-02-23T20:20:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/?p=62857"},"modified":"2015-02-23T14:20:51","modified_gmt":"2015-02-23T20:20:51","slug":"phi-kappa-phi-to-receive-little-free-library","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/2015\/02\/phi-kappa-phi-to-receive-little-free-library\/","title":{"rendered":"Phi Kappa Phi to receive Little Free Library"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi \u2014 the nation\u2019s oldest and most selective all discipline honor society \u2014 today awarded a Little Free Library to the Delta State University chapter for its participation in the society\u2019s annual Book Drive Competition.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The Little Free Library is a freestanding box where anyone may donate and borrow books in an effort to promote literacy throughout communities. In addition to the Little Free Library, the chapter will receive $150 to cover the design cost of personalizing the library.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The competition, held between Sept.\u00a01 and Dec. 31, 2014, saw participation from Phi Kappa Phi chapters across the nation with a total of more than 700 donated books. The chapters were tasked with collecting as many books as possible to donate to an organization of their choice.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">\u00a0<\/span>The society\u2019s student advisory board, the Council of Students, developed and managed the three-month event. Phi Kappa Phi inducts annually approximately 32,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni. The Society has chapters on more than 300 select colleges and universities in North America and the Philippines. Membership is by invitation only to the top 10 percent of seniors and graduate students and 7.5 percent of second-term juniors. Faculty, professional staff and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction also qualify.
