The Delta Music Institute entertainment industry studies program at Delta State University recently hosted Jonathan Cain, GRAMMY nominated keyboardist\/vocalist\/writer for the super group Journey, as the first guest of the semester for the DMI All Access series.<\/p>\n
DMI All Access is a series of open forums and lectures throughout the academic year featuring industry professionals from various areas of the music and entertainment industry.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was such a pleasure to have Jonathan Cain as our DMI All Access guest,\u201d said DMI Director Tricia Walker. \u201cThe sense of gratitude with which he shared his career stories was refreshing, and I hope, inspiring for the students and guests in attendance.”<\/p>\n
Cain joined Journey in 1980 and aided the group\u2019s rise to the top with first collaborations on the album \u201cEscape,\u201d composing and playing the piano on songs such as \u201cDon\u2019t Stop Believin,\u2019\u201d as well as being the sole author of the classic Journey ballad \u201cFaithfully.\u201d<\/p>\n
He went on to appear on 13 other Journey albums and compilations. Cain has received two BMI songwriter awards, both for songs co-written with Steve Perry, \u201cOpen Arms\u201d and \u201cWho\u2019s Cryin\u2019 Now.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Delta Music Institute is an independent center of study under the College of Arts and Sciences at Delta State University, offering a B.S. degree in Entertainment Industry Studies.
