{"id":62544,"date":"2015-01-21T08:06:25","date_gmt":"2015-01-21T14:06:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/?p=62544"},"modified":"2015-01-21T08:06:25","modified_gmt":"2015-01-21T14:06:25","slug":"journey-musician-scheduled-for-dmi-all-access","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/2015\/01\/journey-musician-scheduled-for-dmi-all-access\/","title":{"rendered":"Journey musician scheduled for DMI All Access"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Delta Music Institute entertainment industry studies program at Delta State University will host Jonathan Cain, GRAMMY nominated keyboardist\/vocalist\/writer for the super group Journey, as the first guest of the semester for the DMI All Access series. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The event is scheduled for Jan. 27 at 6 p.m. in DMI Studio A in the Whitfield Building. DMI All Access is a series of open forums and lectures throughout the academic year featuring industry professionals from various areas of the music and entertainment industry.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Cain joined The Babys in 1979 appearing on &#8220;Union Jacks&#8221; and &#8220;On The Edge&#8221; before leaving the group to join Journey in 1980. He\u00a0aided Journey\u2019s rise to the top with his first collaborations on the album &#8220;Escape,&#8221; composing and playing the piano on songs such as \u201cDon\u2019t Stop Believin,'&#8221; as well as being the sole author of the classic Journey ballad \u201cFaithfully.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">He went on to appear on 13 other Journey albums and compilations. Cain has received two BMI songwriter awards, both for songs co-written with Steve Perry, \u201cOpen Arms\u201d and \u201cWho\u2019s Cryin\u2019 Now.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In 1996, the Journey lineup from the album &#8220;Escape&#8221; reunited to record the album &#8220;Trial by Fire.&#8221; Cain remains a primary contributor with the band and was still recording and touring through 2012. In addition to his notable work with Journey, he\u00a0has released eight solo albums and contributed to solo albums by fellow Journey member Neal Schon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWe are thrilled to have Jonathan Cain as our first DMI All Access guest this semester,\u201d said DMI Director Tricia Walker. \u201cHe will bring our students a unique perspective on his amazing professional entertainment career.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The event is open to the public at no charge.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Delta Music Institute is an independent center of study under the College of Arts and\u00a0Sciences at Delta State University, offering a B.S. degree in Entertainment Industry Studies. The focus of the DMI is to provide students with a broad and thorough education in the technological, creative and business areas of the music and entertainment industry.
