The award is designed to bring deserved attention to\u00a0a woman of the Delta who has made contributions not only to her immediate community but also on a national platform. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Through the arts, literature, civil rights and social justice, past recipients have been ambassadors representing the Delta to the world.\u00a0<\/span>The award also provides that the recipient would deposit her\u00a0papers with the University Archives, thereby adding more primary source materials on women in the Delta for research purposes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">A portrait of the winning nomination will be unveiled at a ceremony once the selection has been made, and the\u00a0portrait will hang with past recipients in the Lucy Somerville Howorth Seminar Room in the Charles W. Capps, Jr. Archives &amp; Museum building on campus.
