Delta State University, through its Grants Office, will host a three-day, intensive grant training workshop conducted by the Grant Training Center (GTC) at the first of the new year.<\/p>\n

 <\/font><\/div>\n
Scheduled for Monday, Jan. 14, 2008 – Wednesday, Jan. 16 on the campus of Delta State, the three-day training will focus on identifying funding sources, developing proposals, communicating with program officers, writing winning proposals and submission practices.<\/font><\/div>\n
 <\/font><\/div>\n
Workshop participants will leave with a skill set that will enable them to be competitive grant writers. This is a key professional advancement opportunity. Each participant will have the opportunity to develop and fine tune a grant abstract, narrative and budget.<\/font><\/div>\n
 <\/font><\/div>\n
The workshop will be conducted by Dr. Matilda Harris, Director of the Grant Training Center located in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Harris holds a doctorate in Higher Education Administration from George Washington University (Washington, DC), a master’s in English Literature from the University of Portland (Oregon) and a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of California (Berkeley) and Portland State University.<\/font><\/div>\n
 <\/font><\/div>\n
During the past 17 years, she has assisted individuals and institutions nationally and internationally to successfully write and receive funding from federal, corporate and private foundations, as well as multi-lateral donors. <\/font><\/div>\n
 <\/font><\/div>\n
She has also conducted national workshops on grant writing, fund acquisition and implementation. Additionally, Harris has served as a reader and evaluator of grant competitions for the U.S. Department of Education, the Fund for the Improvement of Post-Secondary Education, the National Science Foundation and the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. <\/font><\/div>\n
 <\/font><\/div>\n
She has been a member of several national committees to review grant guidelines and propose changes to RFP’s for agencies such as the Organization of American States, the U.S. Department of Education and the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Development.  <\/font><\/div>\n
 <\/font><\/div>\n
Workshop sessions will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will be held inside the Simmons Room of the Alumni-Foundation House on Delta State’s campus. <\/font> <\/font><\/div>\n
 <\/font><\/div>\n
Cost for the training is $595, which includes materials and breakfast daily.<\/font><\/div>\n
