{"id":61013,"date":"2014-08-18T12:06:59","date_gmt":"2014-08-18T17:06:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/?p=61013"},"modified":"2014-08-18T12:09:31","modified_gmt":"2014-08-18T17:09:31","slug":"move-in-day-filled-with-excitement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/2014\/08\/move-in-day-filled-with-excitement\/","title":{"rendered":"Move-in Day filled with excitement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Delta State\u2019s annual Move-in Day was a big success Sunday with 1,100 students moving into campus residence halls in anticipation of the semester kicking off today.<\/p>\n<p>Family, friends, students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community and church groups\u00a0came together to help move all the living essentials into the dormitory rooms.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWords alone cannot express how thankful I am to everyone who helped make the day successful,\u201d said Jeanna Wilkes, Student Success advisor. \u201cWe have already received a lot of positive feedback from parents and students excited to be a part of the Delta State University community. The Office of Student Affairs and the Student Success Center could not have done this without you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A number of campus offices were open for service and support, including Admissions, Barnes and Noble Bookstore, Financial Aid, Career Services, Housing and Residence Life, Registrars\u2019 Office, Student Business Services and University Police.<\/p>\n<p>Another highlight of the day was President William N. LaForge taking part in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge to help spread awareness on ALS disease (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis). These donations have come from existing donors and 307,598 new donors to the association.<\/p>\n<p>After the challenge, students continued to settle into the dorms. April Mondy, hall director for Foundation Hall, said the process went efficiently.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe housing staff prepared extensively for Move-in Day,\u201d said Mondy. \u201cThe hard work paid off as the day went very smoothly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Contributing to the efforts were 19 local churches, civic groups and student organizations.
