Stringfellow, director of AmeriCorps*VISTA at Delta State University, recently visited Washington, D.C. for a private meeting at the White House to discuss HIV in the American South.<\/p>\n<p>Convened by Office of National Aids Policy director, Douglas Brooks, the four-hour meeting brought together activists, consumers, organization leaders and government representation to engage in a frank and informed discussion.<\/p>\n<p>Stringfellow joined other representatives from the Southern AIDS Coalition to develop this meeting and encourage partnerships to end the HIV epidemic.<\/p>\n<p>Stringfellow will also attend the 2014 United States Conference on AIDS in San Diego, Calif. in October in recognition of her brown bag lunch program, a training initiative by the Black AIDS Institute.<\/p>\n<p>The Southern AIDS Coalition, formed in 2001, is a regional nonprofit serving the 16 Southern states and D.C. as defined by the U.S. Census: Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia.<\/p>\n<p>The coalition is comprised of a unique partnership of government representatives, community-based organizations, people living with HIV disease and business entities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Linda N.
