The Delta State University Staff Council honored Marilyn Read today as the April 2014 Employee of the Month. Read serves as the institution’s coordinator of Continuing Education.<\/span><\/p>\n

Read was born and raised in Greenville, and she and her husband, John, reside in Leland with their one daughter, Elizabeth. She\u00a0came to Delta State in 2002 as a research associate in Institutional Research and joined Graduate and Continuing Studies in October 2003. She was promoted to her current position in 2007. <\/span><\/p>\n

Read is an active member of First Baptist Church in Leland. She enjoys reading and spending time with her family.\u00a0Read is also chair elect for Administrative Staff Council. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Employee of the Month distinction is given to a staff member who has provided service at Delta State that is considered over and beyond those duties outlined in his or her job description. Nominations are submitted by colleagues on campus.<\/span><\/p>\n

Each winner receives a plaque, monetary award, WalMart gift card from the Student Government Association, an engraved insulated coffee mug, a free parking decal courtesy of the Campus Police Department, a box of treats from The Sweetery, a parking spot of their choice, two Okra gift cards (one from Athletics and one from a private donor), marquee announcement and website recognition.<\/span>

Delta State\u2019s Staff Council serves as a liaison between the administration and the staff to provide a formal process for staff to discuss issues involving university policies and procedures and to forward ideas, recommendations and opinions to the president.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
