The third annual Steve Azar Delta Soul Celebrity Golf and Charity Event will be held in Greenville June 5-7. This year\u2019s fundraising event promises to be even larger as word is spreading about the Delta\u2019s hospitality and great food.<\/p>\n
The event has garnered the attention of publications such as Golf Digest and Country Weekly. Event founder Steve Azar said, \u201cThe Delta Soul has received national recognition recently, and it has been good to have our Delta featured on the \u2018big stage.\u2019 We are looking forward to another year of celebration and giving back.\u201d<\/p>\n
Celebrities scheduled to participate this year are Nation Hockey League Hall of Famer Grant Fuhr; Major League Baseball great Reggie Smith; Super Bowl-winning quarterback Jim McMahon; former National Football League tight end Wesley Walls; saxophonist Branford Marsalis; actors Grant Show, Chris Rich and Richard Karn; Mark Bryan and Dean Felber of Hootie and the Blowfish; former Ladies Professional Golf Association star Kris Tschetter; former wrestler Ray “The Glacier” Lloyd; and supermodel Kim Alexis.<\/p>\n
The schedule of events includes a private celebrity dinner June 5 at Doe\u2019s Eat Place, followed by a stop at Walnut Street Blues Bar. The celebrity cup challenge kicks off on June 6 with the \u201cBig Night Party\u201d followed by an auction. Both events are scheduled at the Greenville Golf and Country Club.<\/p>\n
On June 7, the golf tournament will be held at the Greenville Golf and Country Club. Immediately following, a catfish fry will be held at a location to be determined. Later that night, Harlow\u2019s Casino & Resort will rock with Steve Azar and Friends.<\/p>\n
All proceeds from the event benefit the Steve Azar St. Cecilia Foundation. Last year\u2019s three-day event raised $170,000, compared to $110,000 the first year.<\/p>\n
Beneficiaries for the 2013 event were the Greenville Arts Council, St. Joseph Catholic Schools, Delta State University and the Delta Music Institute, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Washington County, Delta 180, Delta Children\u2019s Museum, DeSoto Family Theatre, Camp Looking Glass, Delta Center Stage and Delta Symphony.<\/p>\n
Sponsors for\u00a0 the 2014 event are Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi, The Skin Institute and The Hartness Foundation. Harlow\u2019s Casino & Resort is the host hotel with James Ceranti Motors providing transportation for guests.<\/p>\n
