As a retired educator, her passion for literacy is carried forward. \" src=\"\/Images\/univ_relations\/2013 Releases\/JAB.jpg\" \/><\/td>\n<td width=\"3%\">&nbsp;<\/td>\n<td width=\"59%\">\n<p>Delta State&rsquo;s College of Education and Human Sciences invites the public to an event celebrating the efforts of retired educator Dr. Janie Allen-Bradley.<\/p>\n<p>From 2-4 p.m. on Sept. 12 at the Jacob Conference Center in Ewing Hall, the college will host &ldquo;A Legacy of Literacy&rdquo; for the first time, with hopes of honoring Allen-Bradley annually.<\/p>\n<p>Allen-Bradley was a dedicated promoter of literacy during her time at Delta State and now has The Janie Allen-Bradley Literacy Endowment established in her name.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We&rsquo;re looking forward to honoring one of our most distinguished former reading faculty members with this annual event in her name,&rdquo; said Dr. Dianne Thomas, associate professor of teacher education.<\/p>\n<p>Two notable speakers are scheduled for the affair and will interact with the audience.<\/p>\n<p>Sarah C. Campbell, author and photographer, writes about interesting things she sees around her. Children, teachers, librarians and grandparents have embraced her books for their simple, compelling texts and stunning close-up photographs.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td colspan=\"3\">\n<p>She has won the Association for Library Service to Children Notable  Children&#8217;s Books award, the Theodore Seuss Geisel Honor Book Award and  the Mississippi Library Association Award for her work.<\/p>\n<p>Chuck Galey, author, illustrator and teaching artist, has  drawn all of his life. He has illustrated for magazines, corporations  and advertising clients nationwide. Galey has illustrated over 70  educational books and 11 children&#8217;s picture books, one that he authored.<\/p>\n<p>He presents exciting school programs and is listed on the  MS Arts Commission&rsquo;s Teaching Artist Roster. Galey has also won an  award from the Mississippi Library Association.<\/p>\n<p>Classroom teachers, parents, pre-service teachers and  librarians are encouraged to benefit from this event.
