{"id":3442,"date":"2013-01-16T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2013-01-16T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/2013\/01\/16\/mississippi-delta-night-in-the-capitol-city-2\/"},"modified":"2013-09-09T14:05:42","modified_gmt":"2013-09-09T14:05:42","slug":"mississippi-delta-night-in-the-capitol-city-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/2013\/01\/mississippi-delta-night-in-the-capitol-city-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Mississippi Delta Night in the Capitol City"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"125\" height=\"167\" align=\"left\" src=\"\/Images\/univ_relations\/2013 Releases\/liz_davis.jpg\" alt=\"Liz Davis\" class=\"caption\" \/>The Delta Music Institute, a recording arts and music industry studies program at Delta State University, will host its third &ldquo;Delta Night at Hal &amp; Mal&rsquo;s&rdquo; on Saturday, January 26, beginning at 7:30 p.m. &ldquo;Delta Night&rdquo; will promote the music of Mississippi and Delta State&rsquo;s music industry studies program by featuring performances by various musical acts, most notably Mississippi reality television star Liz Davis. Davis, a native of Madison, was the first place winner of the interactive talent show P. Diddy&rsquo;s Starmaker as well as a Top 20 finalist on the hit reality series The Voice. <\/p>\n<p>The Delta Music Institute houses two cover bands of college students that will be performing at the event. Ol&rsquo; Skool Revue is an R&amp;B\/funk\/soul\/blues band playing the hits of Motown, Memphis, and Muscle Shoals while DeltaRoX delivers chart-topping songs from the genre of Classic Rock. Additional DMI students performing will be singer\/songwriter Reed Smith, EDM artist Argiflex, and dupstep group Basshouse. Also scheduled to perform will be the DMI All-Stars who will be travelling to Los Angeles during February to perform for Mississippi Night during GRAMMY week. <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"210\" height=\"140\" align=\"right\" src=\"\/Images\/univ_relations\/2013 Releases\/Argiflex@GU.jpg\" alt=\"Argiflex\" class=\"caption\" \/>&ldquo;The music industry studies program at Delta State University is growing as a unique program, offering courses in recording technology, music business, songwriting, production, and much more,&rdquo; says DMI Director Tricia Walker. &ldquo;Our studio facilities are second to none. That fact added into an interactive, small college experience with low student to instructor ratio, offers students a unique learning environment.&rdquo; Walker adds, &ldquo;The DMI program has been structured in such a way as to offer students hands-on, project-based learning opportunities as often as possible, such as working in real recording sessions and at actual festivals and live venues. You can&rsquo;t beat that for an educational experience.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>There will be a $5.00 cover charge for the &ldquo;Delta Night at Hal &amp; Mal&rsquo;s&rdquo; event on Saturday, January 26, at 7:30 p.m. at Hal &amp; Mal&rsquo;s, located at 200 Commerce St., Jackson, MS.
