Delta State University’s Delta Players will present Melanie Marnich’s powerful drama THESE SHINING LIVES<\/em>, Monday, November 12 – Wednesday, November 14. Performances will be in Jobe Hall at 7pm. Tickets are free with DSU ID. $5 general admission. THESE SHINING LIVES<\/em> is a beautifully crafted paean to four women who, despite dire health, stood up to the selfish interests of a powerful corporation. Michael Ewing, Department of Languages and Literatures, directs a cast comprised of both students and members of the Cleveland community. THESE SHINING LIVES<\/em>, inspired by true events, follows the life of Catherine Donahue and the women who painted watches for the Radium Dial Company in the 1920s and 1930s. Radium, initially advertised as a miraculous cure-all, proved to be a highly dangerous substance, and many of the women who worked at Radium Dial eventually took ill and died. Melanie Marnich relates the bitter reality of this public health travesty, but her story is ultimately less about the tragic, and instead highlights the triumphant, revolutionary spirit of these extraordinary women. <\/p>\n
