Celebrating its 15th summer, the Janice Wyatt Mississippi Summer Arts Institute at the Bologna Performing Arts Center is excited to announce a new focus for 2012. Students ages 12-18 attending Arts Camp, a two-week residential program held at Delta State University, will be able to take new courses in graphic art and design. Taught by Delta State Assistant Professor of Art Nathaniel Hein, students will explore using graphic design to create booklets, design posters, and edit digital images. AT&T is sponsoring this new program which will ultimately expand to include photography as well.<\/p>\n
In addition to the new graphic art and design program, students will also be able to take courses in other visual art forms such as printmaking, illustrating, painting, and drawing. Three different types of dance will be available for study, as well as two literary arts classes. Another new class for 2012 is “Backstage Pass,” taught by Bologna Performing Arts Center Technical Director Van Jenkins. Students will learn about the “other” side of theatre such as lighting, sound, and technical work. Choral music, West African Drumming, Improvisation, and Scene Studies round out the complete Arts Camp course offerings which top out at twenty this summer. All courses are taught by Delta State faculty or highly qualified teaching artists.<\/p>\n
