The Delta State University Social Work Department will present The Margaret Tullos Field Symposium entitled “Youth & Family Advocacy” on Wednesday, April 4, in the Jacob Conference Center located in the Ewing Building on the Delta State University campus. The conference cost is $80.00 and can be paid at registration which begins at 8 a.m. Guest presenters include:<\/p>\n
William Bell, PH.D is president and chief executive officer of Casey Family Programs. Bell received a bachelor’s in biology and behavioral science from Delta State University in 1981. Bell earned a Master’s of Social Work and a Ph.D. in Social Welfare at the Hunter College School of Social Work. A native of Pace, his passion is improving child welfare systems throughout the nation and contributing to the advancement of child welfare issues through increased public awareness.
Jed Oppenheim and Vanessa Carroll, of the Southern Poverty Law Center- MS Youth Justice Project, will share the importance of advocacy for Mississippi families and youths in mental health, educational reform and juvenile justice. <\/p>\n
This event is open to the public. Social workers, counselors, and youth and family advocates are encouraged to attend. Continuing Education Units will be awarded to those requesting them.
