{"id":278,"date":"2010-07-23T10:58:40","date_gmt":"2010-07-23T10:58:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/2010\/07\/23\/moon-awarded-prestigious-fellowship\/"},"modified":"2013-09-03T12:56:31","modified_gmt":"2013-09-03T12:56:31","slug":"moon-awarded-prestigious-fellowship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/2010\/07\/moon-awarded-prestigious-fellowship\/","title":{"rendered":"Moon awarded prestigious fellowship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><P align=\"center\"><A name=\"OLE_LINK1\"><SPAN><IMG height=\"258\" alt=\"\" src=\"\/images\/univ_relations\/bmoon2.jpg\" width=\"320\" border=\"0\"><\/P><P>Dr. <\/SPAN><\/A><SPAN><SPAN>Beverly Moon<\/SPAN><SPAN><SPAN>, associate professor of English and Coordinator of the Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies degree program, has been awarded a Sasakawa Fellowship through the American Association of State Colleges and Universities. <\/SPAN><\/P><P><SPAN><SPAN>The fellowship will support Moon\u2019s participation in the National Faculty Development Institute on \u201cIncorporating Japanese Studies into the Undergraduate Curriculum\u201d at <\/SPAN><SPAN><SPAN>San Diego<\/SPAN><SPAN><SPAN> <\/SPAN><SPAN><SPAN>State<\/SPAN><SPAN><SPAN> <\/SPAN><SPAN><SPAN>University<\/SPAN><SPAN><SPAN> June 1 to <\/SPAN><SPAN><SPAN>June 23, 2006<\/SPAN><SPAN><SPAN>.<\/SPAN><\/P><P><SPAN><SPAN>The award covers institute tuition, housing, some transportation costs and a daily stipend for meals and other expenses.<\/SPAN><SPAN><SPAN> <\/SPAN><\/P><P><SPAN><SPAN>Designed for faculty without prior experience in Japanese studies who wish to incorporate information about <\/SPAN><SPAN><SPAN>Japan<\/SPAN><SPAN><SPAN> into the undergraduate courses they teach, the institute intends to introduce <\/SPAN><SPAN><SPAN>\u201cparticipants to a comprehensive range of teaching and learning resources related to the study of modern <\/SPAN><SPAN><SPAN>Japan<\/SPAN><SPAN><SPAN>.\u201d <\/SPAN><SPAN><\/SPAN><\/P><P><SPAN><SPAN>It involves four weeks of intensive seminars, lectures, readings and cultural activities focused on Japanese culture, literature, history, government, business and education.&nbsp; The staff includes internationally recognized <\/SPAN><SPAN><SPAN>Japan<\/SPAN><SPAN><SPAN> scholars from across the <\/SPAN><SPAN><SPAN>United States<\/SPAN><SPAN><SPAN> and abroad.<\/SPAN><\/P><P><SPAN><SPAN>&nbsp;Made possible by a generous endowment from the Nippon Foundation, Moon contends she applied for the Sasakawa Fellowship because <\/SPAN><SPAN><SPAN>her interest in interdisciplinary studies, cross-cultural experiences and study-abroad programs.
