{"id":2700,"date":"2011-07-06T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2011-07-06T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/2011\/07\/06\/delta-center-presents-mississippi-river-workshop\/"},"modified":"2013-09-09T14:06:52","modified_gmt":"2013-09-09T14:06:52","slug":"delta-center-presents-mississippi-river-workshop","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/2011\/07\/delta-center-presents-mississippi-river-workshop\/","title":{"rendered":"Delta Center presents Mississippi River workshop"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" class=\"caption\" alt=\"Workshop participants at the Coahoma County Higher Education Center.\" src=\"\/Images\/univ_relations\/2011Releases\/Delta Center MR workshop.JPG\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Delta State University&rsquo;s Delta Center for Culture and Learning recently presented a workshop on the Mississippi River and the role of the Levee Boards in controlling floods.&nbsp; Twenty-seven teachers participated in the three day program, which was held at the Coahoma County Higher Education Center.&nbsp; The workshop explored how levees are built and maintained and how the Army Corps of Engineers builds jetties, uses dredges and revetments, and maintains the mainline levee system.&nbsp; The great flood of 1927 was also discussed.&nbsp; Funding was provided by the Education Committee of the Yazoo-Mississippi Delta Levee Board, and participants toured the Board&#8217;s offices in Clarksdale as well as its tree nursery, which it uses in reforestation programs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Delta State University\u2019s Delta Center for Culture and Learning recently presented a workshop on the Mississippi River and the role of the Levee Boards in controlling floods.
