Campers \t\t\tattending the 12th annual MSAI PLUS Camp at Delta State University \t\t\twill present a free performance for the public at 10 a.m., July 17, \t\t\tin the Bologna Performing Arts Center (BPAC) on the campus.  <\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

The \t\t\tperformance will include a choreographed medley of songs from the \t\t\t50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s. Campers will also sing “Hoe-Down \t\t\tThrow-Down,” and a Miley Cyrus favorite, “Party in the USA.”<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

A total of 100 \t\t\tcampers ages 5-12 are participating in the 2010 PLUS camp. These \t\t\tcampers come from the Delta, from other regions in Mississippi, and \t\t\tfrom other states in the United States. The camp even has two \t\t\tcampers from Belgium who attended last year and, as many of the \t\t\tcampers do, timed their visits to their grandparents to be able to \t\t\treturn to the 2010 camp.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

The MSAI PLUS \t\t\tcamp for elementary aged children was established in 1999 to \t\t\tencourage participation in the art of performance. Over the years \t\t\tthe content of the camp has grown to include classes in props; \t\t\tpuppetry; storytelling; and writing, as well as musical and \t\t\tchoreography rehearsals to learn the performance elements. The camp \t\t\tstrives to give opportunities to develop and learn about several \t\t\tartistic disciplines related to the performing arts and to give \t\t\tthese young people an opportunity to sing and dance on the “big \t\t\tstage” of the BPAC.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

“Through the \t\t\texperience of this camp, we are hoping to build on the natural \t\t\tcreativity of children.  We are giving them an outlet for their \t\t\tmusical talents, while also encouraging them to use their \t\t\timaginations as they create puppets and learn how to develop stories \t\t\tand plays,” says Tennie Lester, camp director.  “These children are \t\t\tdeveloping an appreciation for live theatre, and they will become \t\t\tthe future audience of the BPAC.  Perhaps someday, we might even see \t\t\tsome of these campers performing as adults on the BPAC stage.”<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

Faculty \t\t\tmembers include Kathy Mills–Hull from Nashville, Tenn., musical \t\t\tdirector; Mandy Bell from Grenada, choreographer; Terry Baird from \t\t\tCleveland, props; Doris Jones from Madison, storytelling; Celeste \t\t\tAguzzi from Cleveland, puppetry; and McLeod Satterfield from Sugar \t\t\tLand, Tex., writing. The camp also employs several area young adults \t\t\tas teacher assistants and counselors.<\/span><\/p>\n
