The trips  \t\t\twere part of the Business Study Abroad program, an initiative  \t\t\toffered by the Delta State University College of Business. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span> \t\t\tBilly C. Moore, dean of the College of Business said, &ldquo;The goal of  \t\t\tthe program is to help participants become more globally engaged.  \t\t\tBusiness operates in a global society and we must expose our  \t\t\tstudents to the global business environment.&nbsp; We are very fortunate  \t\t\tto have this opportunity and I expect the program will continue to  \t\t\tgrow as more students understand the importance of international  \t\t\tbusiness.&rdquo;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span> \t\t\tParticipants chose to travel to either Europe for 12 days or to Asia  \t\t\tfor ten days. The Europe itinerary included London, Paris, and Rome  \t\t\tand included visits to Bloomberg Finance in London, JP Morgan in  \t\t\tParis, and Telecom Italia in Rome. In addition students attended a  \t\t\tlecture at the Hult International Business School in London. The  \t\t\tAsia itinerary included Tokyo, Japan and Seoul and Busan, South  \t\t\tKorea. Students visited the Samsung Innovation Center and Kia Motors  \t\t\tfactory in Seoul and Hyundai Heavy Industries shipyard in Busan.  \t\t\tBoth groups were able to participate in sightseeing during their  \t\t\tfree time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span> \t\t\tThis is the second year that the College of Business has offered  \t\t\tBusiness Abroad courses. Billy Morehead, chair of the Division of  \t\t\tAccountancy, CIS, and Finance said, &ldquo;The Business Study Abroad  \t\t\tprogram began in 2008 when Dr. Jennifer Ziegelmayer, assistant  \t\t\tprofessor of Computer Information System, and a couple of faculty  \t\t\tdiscussed the potential benefits of getting our students into other  \t\t\tcultures to see that business operates differently from the way we  \t\t\tdo things in the States. It was exciting offering these classes and  \t\t\twe look forward to the study abroad program being an annual  \t\t\toffering. I am grateful to Dr. Ziegelmayer for her leadership in  \t\t\tthis study abroad program.&rdquo;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span> \t\t\tThe Business Study Abroad program involves taking a short-term study  \t\t\ttour to expose students, faculty, and community members to other  \t\t\tcultures and business practices. The inaugural tour took place  \t\t\tduring the summer of 2009 when participants spent two weeks in  \t\t\tEurope visiting various businesses and historic and cultural sites.  \t\t\tIn addition to a return to Europe and South Korea, future study  \t\t\tabroad locations being considered are Turkey, West Africa, and  \t\t\tBrazil.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span> \t\t\t&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span> \t\t\tThe annual study abroad program is available to all members of the  \t\t\tDelta State community including alumni and local residents. Delta  \t\t\tState students may participate on a for-credit basis at both the  \t\t\tundergraduate or graduate level. Students taking the trip for course  \t\t\tcredit may be eligible for financial aid to assist in the costs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span> \t\t\tThis year&rsquo;s participants included: Claire Pitts of Indianola; Joshua  \t\t\tMcDill of Flowood; Jeremy Stephens of Clarksdale; Wilnessa Foster of  \t\t\tAlligator; Wuanita Roberts of Lexington; Matthew Miller of  \t\t\tBatesville, Ark., and alumna Carrie Mayo of Cleveland.
