McMillan’s uncle, Stokes McMillan, wrote the book published by Oak Harbor Publishing in 2009. The book is a true story of racial tragedy and injustice in a Mississippi town in 1950. <\/span><\/div>\n

Stokes McMillan’s father, Billy McMillan, was the photographer for the Kosciusko Star Herald newspaper during the event. He snapped a photo when the escaped prisoners were captured. The photo, featured on the book’s cover, was judged Best Photo of 1950 by the National Press Photographer’s Association. <\/span><\/div>\n

Stokes inherited a scrapbook of photos and newspaper clippings related to the crime, now all but forgotten, and used that information and along with interviews, produced a 426-page book which includes 21 of his father’s photographs.<\/span><\/div>\n

Stokes McMillan is currently an engineer for NASA in Houston. He is scheduled to be at the Writer’s Table at the 2010 Crosstie Festival in Cleveland. Copies are available for purchase at Cotton Row Bookstore in Cleveland.<\/span><\/div>\n

Amanda McMillan donated five copies of the book to the Delta State History Department. Her son, Troy Hodges of Cleveland, is a junior history major at Delta State<\/span>.<\/div>\n
