{"id":1774,"date":"2010-02-09T15:09:20","date_gmt":"2010-02-09T15:09:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/2010\/02\/09\/delta-state-to-host-workshop-with-heartbeat-afrika-ensemble-as-presenters\/"},"modified":"2013-09-09T14:08:19","modified_gmt":"2013-09-09T14:08:19","slug":"delta-state-to-host-workshop-with-heartbeat-afrika-ensemble-as-presenters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/2010\/02\/delta-state-to-host-workshop-with-heartbeat-afrika-ensemble-as-presenters\/","title":{"rendered":"Delta State to host workshop with HEARTBEAT AFRIKA ensemble as presenters"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;color: black\">The Bologna Performing Arts Center (BPAC) is hosting <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">a free workshop <span style=\"color: black\">for children ages 8-11, on Saturday, Feb. 27, from 9 a.m. &ndash; noon in the chorale rehearsal room 153 of Zeigel Hall on the campus.<br \/>&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">Members of the HEARTBEAT AFRIKAensemble will be presenters at the workshop which is<span style=\"color: black\"> part of the Juliet Kossman ArtsPass series.&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">A performing arts ensemble, HEARTBEAT AFRIKAis a fusion of traditional African percussion with a modern live band rhythm. The group was formed in 2005, by Olu Manns and Elec Simon, and has shared their talents with audiences throughout the United States.&nbsp;<br \/>&nbsp; <\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">Born in New York City, Manns is a second-generation percussionist.&nbsp;He was exposed to traditional African drumming at a young age and performed nationally by the age of 16.&nbsp; He has performed internationally in Brazil and Africa and has shared his talent as a percussion instructor with students in the Cleveland, Ohio Metropolitan School District and at the college level.<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">Simon, a tap dancer by profession, also learned drumming at a young age.
