{"id":1726,"date":"2010-01-12T09:30:15","date_gmt":"2010-01-12T09:30:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/2010\/01\/12\/delta-state-to-offer-free-tax-preparation-and-financial-education\/"},"modified":"2013-09-09T14:08:25","modified_gmt":"2013-09-09T14:08:25","slug":"delta-state-to-offer-free-tax-preparation-and-financial-education","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/2010\/01\/delta-state-to-offer-free-tax-preparation-and-financial-education\/","title":{"rendered":"Delta State to offer free tax preparation and financial education"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font size=\"2\">The Center for Community and Economic Development at Delta State University has been designated an Internal Revenue Service (IRS) site for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.&nbsp; <br \/><\/font><\/p>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: 10pt;line-height: 115%\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;line-height: 115%\">This program is made possible by a $7500 grant from the National Community Tax Coalition, a project of the Center for Economic Progress in Chicago, Illinois, and through the collaborative partnership of Delta State University&rsquo;s College of Business and the AmeriCorps*VISTA program.&nbsp;<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: 10pt;line-height: 115%\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;line-height: 115%\">The VITA program will offer free tax help to individuals who earn less than $49,000. Certified IRS volunteers will assist individuals to help with special credits such as, Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, and Credit for the Elderly or the Disabled. <\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: 10pt;line-height: 115%\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;line-height: 115%\">In addition to free tax return preparation assistance, this program will offer free financial literacy training.&nbsp; <\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: 10pt;line-height: 115%\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;line-height: 115%\">Tax preparation services will be offered Jan. 25 &ndash; Feb.27 on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 3:30-6 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. and&nbsp; March 1 &#8211; April 15 on Mondays from 3:30-6 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m.- noon. <\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: 10pt;line-height: 115%\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;line-height: 115%\">The VITA tax preparation site is located at the Center for Community and Economic Development at 1417 College Street in Cleveland.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: 10pt;line-height: 115%\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;line-height: 115%\">Taxes are filed by appointment only.
