{"id":1678,"date":"2009-11-20T13:11:33","date_gmt":"2009-11-20T13:11:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/2009\/11\/20\/delta-state-to-host-second-drumming-and-dance-workshop\/"},"modified":"2013-09-09T14:08:28","modified_gmt":"2013-09-09T14:08:28","slug":"delta-state-to-host-second-drumming-and-dance-workshop","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/2009\/11\/delta-state-to-host-second-drumming-and-dance-workshop\/","title":{"rendered":"Delta State to host second Drumming and Dance workshop"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font size=\"2\">The Bologna Performing Arts Center (BPAC) is hosting <\/font><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">a second free workshop on Drumming and Dance in West Africa <span style=\"color: black\">as part of the Juliet Kossman ArtsPass series on Saturday, Dec. 5, from 9 a.m.- noon&nbsp;at the BPAC. <\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">Dr. Karen Fosheim, professor of music at Delta State, will present this workshop, which will be an exploration of the culture of West Africa through drumming, dance, and song.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">Participants will learn the basic techniques of African djembe drumming and play traditional African drumming rhythms in an ensemble consisting of djembe and dundun drums, balafons, bells, and shakers.<br \/>&nbsp;<br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">They will also learn the dances and songs that accompany the drumming rhythms.&nbsp;A mini-performance will conclude the workshop.<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;color: black\">The workshop is for children ages 5-8.
