The Delta State University Community Drumming Experience will present their fall concert and Doundounba dance party on Monday, Nov. 9, at 7:30 p.m., on the second floor of the H.L. Nowell Union on the campus.<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

The group, led by Dr. Karen Fosheim, will perform drumming rhythms, dances, and songs from West Africa.  <\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

The selections will include traditional West African rhythms, newer popular rhythms from West Africa, and one original composition by Fosheim. The ensemble is comprised of djembe and dundun drums, balafons, bells, and shakers.  <\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

The event will conclude with a Doundounba dance. In Guinea, West Africa, the Dounounba is used to celebrate or to mark a special event.  The members of the Community Drumming Experience will dance and also invite members of the audience to participate.<\/span><\/p>\n
