{"id":162,"date":"2010-07-23T10:58:40","date_gmt":"2010-07-23T10:58:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/2010\/07\/23\/delta-states-bpac-welcomes-glenn-miller-orchestra\/"},"modified":"2013-09-03T12:56:40","modified_gmt":"2013-09-03T12:56:40","slug":"delta-states-bpac-welcomes-glenn-miller-orchestra","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/2010\/07\/delta-states-bpac-welcomes-glenn-miller-orchestra\/","title":{"rendered":"Delta State\u2019s BPAC welcomes Glenn Miller Orchestra"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><P><TABLE cellSpacing=\"1\" cellPadding=\"1\" width=\"75%\" align=\"center\" border=\"0\"><TR><TD><P align=\"center\"><IMG height=\"270\" alt=\"\" src=\"\/images\/univ_relations\/glennMillerOrchestra.jpg\" width=\"432\" border=\"0\"><\/P><\/TD><\/TR><TR><TD><P align=\"center\">The Glenn Miller Orchestra will perform Friday, March 3 at <SPAN>7:30 p.m.<\/SPAN><SPAN> at the Bologna Performing Arts Center on the <\/SPAN><SPAN>Delta<\/SPAN><SPAN> <\/SPAN><SPAN>State<\/SPAN><SPAN> <\/SPAN><SPAN>campus. <\/SPAN><\/P><\/TD><\/TR><\/TABLE><\/P><P>As part of a tour through the South, the Glenn Miller Orchestra will visit the <SPAN>Bologna<\/SPAN><SPAN> <\/SPAN><SPAN>Performing<\/SPAN><SPAN> <\/SPAN><SPAN>Art<\/SPAN><SPAN> <\/SPAN><SPAN>Center<\/SPAN><SPAN> on the <\/SPAN><SPAN>Delta<\/SPAN><SPAN> <\/SPAN><SPAN>State<\/SPAN><SPAN> <\/SPAN><SPAN>University<\/SPAN><SPAN> campus, Friday, March 3 at <\/SPAN><SPAN>7:30 p.m.<\/SPAN><SPAN> <\/SPAN><\/P><P><SPAN>The most prolific swing band in history, the band still plays about 300 date annually, traveling over 100,000 miles each year.<\/SPAN><\/P><P><SPAN>\u201cThis is one of the best loved performance groups in the world and a show that folks will not want to miss,\u201d said David Dallas, the Bologna Performing Arts Center\u2019s Executive Director. \u201cWe are very fortunate to have the Glenn Miller Orchestra coming this year. They are still the most sought after big-band in the world.\u201d <\/SPAN><\/P><P><SPAN>Miller\u2019s recordings of <I>In the Mood<\/I>, <I>Chattanooga Choo Choo<\/I>, <I>A String of Pearls<\/I>, <I>Moonlight Serenade<\/I> and <I>Tuxedo Junction<\/I> were all major hits in the 1930\u2019s and 40\u2019s.<\/SPAN><\/P><P><SPAN>The band\u2019s founder and namesake, Glenn Miller disappeared on <\/SPAN><SPAN>Dec. 15, 1944<\/SPAN><SPAN>, when his flight from <\/SPAN><SPAN>London<\/SPAN><SPAN> to <\/SPAN><SPAN>Paris<\/SPAN><SPAN> went down over the <\/SPAN><SPAN>English Channel<\/SPAN><SPAN> at the height of his popularity. Miller had disbanded his famous orchestra to form the Glenn Miller Army Air Force Band to entertain the servicemen in WWII.<\/SPAN><\/P><P><SPAN>&nbsp;\u201cThe Orchestra is an icon of American history as well American music.\u201d <\/SPAN><SPAN>Dallas<\/SPAN><SPAN> added. \u201cIt\u2019s the music of the Greatest Generation, but we hope all generations will want to come out and enjoy the experience.\u201d <\/SPAN><\/P><P><SPAN>The Glenn Miller Orchestra has been an international phenomenon for more than half a century, confirming that Miller&#8217;s music has no time limitations.<\/SPAN><\/P><P><SPAN>\u201cThey\u2019ll be playing all the standards, but also some lesser-known tunes that should jog a few memories from our audience,\u201d <\/SPAN><SPAN>Dallas<\/SPAN><SPAN> finished.<BR><BR>For more information on this performance, please contact the Bologna Performing Arts Center at (662) 846-4626.<\/SPAN><\/P><P><SPAN><\/SPAN>&nbsp;<\/P><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Glenn Miller Orchestra will perform Friday, March 3 at 7:30 p.m. at the Bologna Performing Arts Center on the Delta State campus.
