Music Industry instructors from the Delta Music Institute (DMI) at Delta State University will be offering free workshops on several industry topics on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 2 -5 p.m. at the Mary C. O’Keefe Cultural Center in Ocean Springs. <\/font><\/p>\n

 <\/div>\n
The workshops will be held in conjunction with the 5th<\/sup> Annual Ocean Springs Music Festival, taking place that same weekend. There is no charge for the workshops and pre-registration is not necessary. Interested students need only go to the Mary C. O’Keefe Cultural Center’s Scharr-Ello Music Recording Studio, on the second floor.<\/span><\/div>\n

Instructors for the workshops include DMI Director Tricia Walker and DMI Instructors Mike Iacopelli and Barry Bays.  <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

Walker is a 30-year veteran of the music industry, having spent the majority of her career based in Nashville as a singer\/songwriter, producer, and music publisher. She has written award-winning songs, evidenced by Alison Krauss receiving a Grammy™ for her recording of Walker’s song, Looking In The Eyes Of Love.<\/i> She returned to Delta State to lead the Delta Music Institute in 2006. Walker will be leading a workshop entitled, “Songwriting 101: It All Begins With A Song.”<\/i><\/span><\/div>\n

Iacopelli is the chief audio engineer at the DMI and serves as the coordinator of sound recording technology for the institute. He has worked as a recording and mastering engineer in studios in Detroit, Nashville, and Memphis, and has worked with a range of artists, including Aretha Franklin, Parliament Funkadelic, and Bishop G. E. Patterson. He will be presenting a workshop entitled, “Basics of Studio Recording: The Good Rule.”<\/i> <\/span><\/div>\n

Bays has performed with nationally and internationally known artists, including Shawn Lane, Kenny Brown, “Big” George Brock, and more. Bays directs DMI’s two performing bands, Ol’ Skool Revue (R&B\/Soul\/Blues\/Funk) and DeltaRoX (Classic Rock). He will be leading the workshop, “The Working Musician: How To Survive.”<\/i><\/span><\/div>\n
