“Creating Cultural Sensitivity in the Workplace” is the title of a educational workshop to be offered by Delta State University’s Department of Social Work and Graduate and Continuing Studies. <\/font><\/p>\n

Dr. Jeannie Falkner, associate professor of social work will be speaker for the workshop scheduled for Tuesday, Oct 20, from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. in the Capps Archives Seminar Room on the Delta State campus.<\/span><\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
Participants will learn the steps and components necessary for creating a culturally diverse and sensitive workplace environment.<\/span><\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
Workers in the helping professions face an ever increasing culturally diverse workplace setting. Cultural sensitivity in the workplace is often overlooked as essential to harmonious employee relations. The natural inclination to focus on differences can result in perpetuating stereotypes rather than promoting teambuilding. <\/span><\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
Creating a diverse workplace requires that we first explore our own beliefs which are deeply embedded with race, culture, gender, religion\/spirituality, political ideology, and sociodemographic differences. <\/span><\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
Moving from this ethnocentric view, one can learn to discover our commonalities and celebrate our differences.  <\/span><\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
Social work units (SWU) and continuing education units (CEU) will be offered at no cost.<\/span><\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
Those in the social work field and public workforce are invited to attend at no charge. <\/span><\/div>\n
