Seated on drums, Stephen Chew, drums, vocals, percussion of Madison<\/font><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\">DeltaRoX, the Classic Rock band from the Delta Music Institute (DMI), was selected to perform as the opening act for the recently held 4<sup>th<\/sup> Annual Grammy U Kickoff event in Memphis. <\/font><\/p>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">DeltaRoX, directed by DMI instructor Barry Bays, opened the show with a 20-minute performance of Classic Rock tunes, including &ldquo;Mississippi Queen,&rdquo; &ldquo;Hit Me With Your Best Shot,&rdquo; &ldquo;The Boys Are Back In Town,&rdquo; and &ldquo;Sweet Emotion.&rdquo; <\/span><\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">DeltaRoX band members are students enrolled in courses at the Delta Music Institute, a recording arts and music industry studies program at Delta State University.<\/span><\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">This year&rsquo;s kickoff event held at Harris Hall on the campus of the University of Memphis, was the first of several events scheduled this year for Grammy U students and members of the Memphis Chapter of the Recording Academy. Several Grammy U students from Delta State attended the kickoff event in addition to DeltaRoX.<\/span><\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">The GRAMMY University Network (GRAMMY U) is a unique and fast-growing community of college students who are pursuing a career in the music industry. The Recording Academy<sup>&reg;<\/sup> created GRAMMY U to help prepare students for careers in the recording industry through networking, educational programs and performance opportunities. <\/span><\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">GRAMMY U is designed to enhance students&rsquo; current academic curriculum with access to recording industry professionals to give an &ldquo;out of classroom&rdquo; perspective on the recording industry. <\/span><\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">DMI&rsquo;s Grammy U chapter was formed in the fall of 2008 and now has over 50 members. Currently serving as chapter officers are Greg Cobb, senior of Collierville, Tenn., president; Brian Thomson vice-president; and Vickie Jackson secretary-treasurer of Clarksdale. Faculty advisors for DMI&rsquo;s Grammy U chapter are instructors Mike Iacopelli and Barry Bays.<\/span><\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">The Delta Music Institute is an independent center of study under the College of Arts and Sciences at Delta State. It began with a generous donation by Fred Carl of the Viking Range Corporation in 2003.
