The Center for Community and Economic Development at Delta State University in partnership with the Dreyfus Health Foundation’s Mississippi Delta Initiative will present a one-day conference entitled “New Delta Rising” on Saturday, Sept. 12, at 2 p.m. inside Walter Sillers Coliseum on the campus.<\/font><\/p>\n

Deborah Moore, director of the Center for Community and Economic Development stated, “The initiative will bring together organizers from the core Delta counties  including Bolivar, Coahoma, Humphreys, Issaquena, Leflore, Quitman, Sharkey, Sunflower, Tallahatchie, Tunica, and Washington to develop county-wide, grassroots, economic development projects based on Dreyfus’ “Problem Solving for Better Health Method” developed by its director, Dr. Barry Smith.” <\/span><\/div>\n

According to Jullian D. Miller, consultant with the Dreyfus Health Foundation, “The projects developed will receive seed funding and technical assistance from Dreyfus.  Also, organizations that bring in participants in this effort will become a community partner of the Dreyfus Health Foundation’s Mississippi Delta Initiative and become eligible for free grant writing services and technical assistance with their own programs in addition to their work on the county projects.”<\/span><\/div>\n

The event is free and open to the public.  Refreshments and entertainment will be provided.<\/span><\/div>\n
