{"id":140,"date":"2010-07-23T10:58:40","date_gmt":"2010-07-23T10:58:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/2010\/07\/23\/delta-state-to-offer-innovative-college-class-to-high-school-seniors\/"},"modified":"2013-09-03T12:56:41","modified_gmt":"2013-09-03T12:56:41","slug":"delta-state-to-offer-innovative-college-class-to-high-school-seniors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/2010\/07\/delta-state-to-offer-innovative-college-class-to-high-school-seniors\/","title":{"rendered":"Delta State to offer innovative college class to high school seniors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Through the collaborating efforts of the Delta Center for Culture and Learning at Delta State University and the Cleveland School District, the Cleveland Youth Council (CYC) is sponsoring a course at DSU for high school seniors, as well as college students.&nbsp; <P><FONT size=\"3\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\">The \u201cdual enrollment\u201d course, \u201cRural and Regional Studies:&nbsp; Delta Civil Rights Heritage\u201d will award three college credits.&nbsp;&nbsp;Under the instruction of Dr. Susan Glisson, Director of The William Winter Institute for Racial Reconciliation at Ole Miss, the civil rights course will examine the \u201cgrassroots, bottom-up organizing that characterized the movement in the Delta.&nbsp; <\/FONT><\/FONT><\/P><P><FONT size=\"3\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\">\u201cIt will focus specifically on the role of young people and women in the movement and help place that work in the larger context of the freedom struggle,\u201d Glisson explained. <\/FONT><\/FONT><\/P><P><FONT size=\"3\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman\">Tuition and fees will be paid for the high school students participating in the class through the Cleveland Youth Council\u2019s support from the Kellogg Foundation.
