CLEVELAND, Miss. \u2014 <\/strong>Delta State University is pleased to announce new federal funding that will further strengthen its Agricultural Aviation Operations Career Pathway and expand aviation workforce training opportunities across Mississippi. The FY2026 Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Appropriations Bill<\/em>, signed last month by President Donald J. Trump, includes $1.75 million for DSU\u2019s Agricultural Aviation Operations Career Pathway program.<\/p>\n

Delta State\u2019s Agricultural Aviation Operations Career Pathway was created to address a growing national shortage of qualified agricultural pilots and to support the long-term needs of the agricultural industry. Established through earlier federal support, the program combines FAA commercial and instrument flight training with specialized instruction in aerial application operations, agricultural safety, turbine aircraft systems and precision application techniques. Delta State remains the only public university in Mississippi offering a comprehensive pathway focused specifically on agricultural aviation operations.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis investment reinforces Delta State University\u2019s commitment to workforce education that directly serves Mississippi\u2019s economy,\u201d said Dr. Daniel J. Ennis, President of Delta State University. \u201cThe Agricultural Aviation Operations Career Pathway is a powerful example of how targeted federal support can create real opportunities for students while addressing critical workforce shortages. We are grateful to Senator Hyde-Smith for her continued advocacy on behalf of Delta State and higher education across our state.\u201d<\/p>\n

Housed within Delta State\u2019s College of Business and Aviation, the program builds on the university\u2019s decades-long aviation tradition while responding to modern industry demands. Students gain hands-on flight experience, industry mentorship and specialized training that prepares them to enter the workforce immediately upon completion.<\/p>\n

Ike Brunetti, Executive Board Member of the Mississippi Agricultural Aviation Association (MAAA) said, “Delta State and its industry partners have set a new standard in workforce training for precision aerial application. This appropriation enables the program to continue advancing research and safety in training for new ag pilots, as well as programs supporting recurrent training for effective application of materials.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOur goal is to align education with industry needs while maintaining the highest standards of safety and instruction,\u201d said Dr. Joseph Childs, Dean of the College of Business and Aviation. \u201cThis funding allows us to continue expanding a program that is producing highly skilled graduates and positioning Delta State as a national leader in agricultural aviation education.\u201d<\/p>\n

Graduates of the Agricultural Aviation Operations Career Pathway have gone on to careers supporting agricultural producers across the Delta and beyond, helping sustain agricultural production, rural economies and aviation safety. The program benefits from close collaboration with aviation professionals and industry partners who provide real-world insight and mentorship.<\/p>\n
