{"id":1078,"date":"2009-03-03T14:38:44","date_gmt":"2009-03-03T14:38:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/2009\/03\/03\/delta-states-pi-kappa-alpha-fraternity-to-present-spring-break-awareness-presentation-by-beth-holloway\/"},"modified":"2013-09-03T12:55:17","modified_gmt":"2013-09-03T12:55:17","slug":"delta-states-pi-kappa-alpha-fraternity-to-present-spring-break-awareness-presentation-by-beth-holloway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.deltastate.edu\/news-and-events\/2009\/03\/delta-states-pi-kappa-alpha-fraternity-to-present-spring-break-awareness-presentation-by-beth-holloway\/","title":{"rendered":"Delta States Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity to present spring break awareness presentation by Beth Holloway"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"290\" alt=\"\" width=\"432\" src=\"\/Images\/univ_relations\/holloway.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><font size=\"2\">Beth Holloway, mother of missing Mountain Brook teen Natalee Holloway, will present a spring break presentation on March 10 at 7 p.m. in the Delta and Pine Land Theatre of the Bologna Performing Arts Center on the campus of Delta State University. <\/font><\/p>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div><span>Natalee Ann Holloway <a title=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Missing_personMissing person\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Missing_person\"><span title=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Missing_person\">disappeared<\/span><\/a> on May 30, 2005, during a high school graduation trip to <a title=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/ArubaAruba\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Aruba\"><span title=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Aruba\">Aruba<\/span><\/a>. &nbsp;Her disappearance caused a <a title=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/SensationalismSensationalism\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sensationalism\"><span title=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sensationalism\">media sensation<\/span><\/a> in the United States.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>Since March 2006, Beth Holloway has been traveling across the country speaking to high school and college students about the importance of travel safety and safety in foreign countries. &nbsp;<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>Holloway said she doesn&rsquo;t discourage foreign travel, but wants people to know the differences they face.<br \/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>&ldquo;Remember when you leave these borders, you leave the rights and freedoms that you&rsquo;re accustomed to,&rdquo; she said.<br \/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>&ldquo;Personal safety is about making a plan and taking it full circle,&rdquo; said Holloway, who later added that she often wonders what would have happened if Natalee and her friends had&nbsp; made plans to meet before the club they were at closed.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div><span>Holloway reminds students that safety should be a primary concern when traveling. &ldquo;As anyone knows,&rdquo; she said, &ldquo;what happened to Natalee can happen to anyone at any time.&rdquo;<\/span><\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div><span>The general public, high school juniors and seniors are encouraged to attend.
