SUMMARY:Pablo Cruise
DESCRIPTION:Grab tickets today at 662-846-4626 or by visiting https://bolognapac.my.salesforce-sites.com/ticket#/events/a0S8Z00000Gui6lUAB \nAmazing harmony vocals combined with consummate musicians\, accompanied by fun yet elegant\, infectious grooves. To hear Pablo Cruise on the record is one thing\, but to experience the band live is an exhilarating event! In 1975\, Pablo Cruise released its first A&M album simply entitled Pablo Cruise. The album cover was shot in the tropical gardens of San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park and it featured a huge gorilla standing front and center. The band\, David Jenkins (guitars\, vocals)\, Cory Lerios (keyboards\, vocals)\, Bud Cockerel (bass\, vocals) and Steve Price (drums\, percussion) were nowhere in sight. At that point there was a bit of a mystique surrounding Pablo Cruise\, and when asked what Pablo Cruise meant\, the well-rehearsed answer went something like this: “Pablo”\, represents an honest\, real\, down to earth individual\, and “Cruise” depicts his fun loving\, easy going attitude towards life: In essence that’s what Pablo Cruise music is all about. \nFrom 1975 to 1985 the band toured the United States\, Canada and Japan extensively\, welcoming fans to “Climb Aboard The Good Ship Pablo Cruise.” Reaching the top 10 with mega hits like “Whatcha Gonna Do When She Says Goodbye?” and “Love Will Find A Way\,” and several other top 20’s\, the band went on to sell several million albums and singles collectively and established themselves as well respected writers and performers within the industry. They appeared on numerous TV shows\, including Dick Clark’s American Bandstand\, The Merv Griffin Show\, The Dinah Shore Hour and in 1979 they broke Elvis Presley’s attendance record at the Sahara Tahoe in South Lake Tahoe\, Nevada\, becoming the first rock band to play a casino showroom. They also became the first rock band to grace the stage at the Grand Ole Opry\, but by 1985 after completing several national tours and releasing 7 studio albums in all\, the band decided to take a hiatus……one that lasted nearly 20 years. \nFast forward 20 years–in 2005 a reunited Pablo Cruise picked up where they left off and today the band performs all over the U.S. and Canada and they’re enjoying it more than ever. Since getting back together\, they have released two live CD’s and a DVD all through Sony Music documenting their exceptional live shows. “One of the great things about playing shows after all these years is that the core band\, David\, Steve and myself are still here and lovin’ it\,” says Cory! “Going out and playing shows these days gives us the opportunity to not only pay tribute to our timeless repertoire\, it gives us a chance to see old friends and fans from back in the day as well as gaining a whole new audience!” Today Pablo Cruise is bringing more energy and excitement to the stage than ever before and with the addition of Larry Antonino and Robbie Wyckoff\, the band has never sounded better.

SUMMARY:Little Satchmo
DESCRIPTION:On Tuesday\, November 7 at 6pm\, the BPAC will host a free screening of Little Satchmo in the Recital Hall as part of the Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers. \nTo the world\, Louis Armstrong is iconic — a symbol of musical genius\, unparalleled success\, and unassailable character. To Sharon\, he was simply Dad. Armstrong’s wholesome\, non-threatening image preserved his singular career as a black performer with unfettered access to a white man’s world. Yet he was more than a caricature. In private\, he held tightly to the things he loved. Perhaps closest to his heart was a child whom he hid from the world: a daughter sworn to a life of secrecy until now. \nSouthern Circuit screenings are funded in part by a grant from South Arts\, a regional arts organization\, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts. Continuously performing shows and withholding a heavy appearance schedule\, Tritt is proving to be unstoppable. \nThe highly abbreviated Tritt timeline started when the young Marietta\, Georgia native incorporated his lifelong influences of Southern rock\, blues and gospel into his country during a honky-tonk apprenticeship that led him to Warner Bros. in 1989. Over the course of a decade\, Travis released seven studio albums and a greatest hits package for the label. His 1990 debut Country Club and its succession of hits put him in the vanguard of the genre’s early ’90s boom\, dubbing him as one of “The Class of ’89\,” which included country music superstars Garth Brooks\, Clint Black\, and Alan Jackson; all whom dominated the charts in the early ’90s. \nIn 2021\, Tritt released a new album with award-winning producer Dave Cobb (Chris Stapleton\, The Highwomen\, Sturgill Simpson) through Big Noise Music Group. The album marked Tritt’s first original album release in over thirteen years. \nGet your tickets today: https://bolognapac.my.salesforce-sites.com/ticket#/events/a0S8Z00000GRa3uUAD

SUMMARY:Hollow Tree
DESCRIPTION:HOLLOW TREE is a free documentary screening in the BPAC Recital Hall as part of the Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers. All screenings begin at 6:00pm. Hollow Tree follows three teenagers coming of age in their sinking homeland of Louisiana. For the first time\, they notice the Mississippi River’s engineering\, stumps of cypress trees\, and billowing smokestacks. Their different perspectives — as Indigenous\, white\, and Angolan young women — shape their story of the climate crisis. \nDirector’s Statement: This film invites three young women\, who did not previously know each other\, to learn with me and my filmmaking team\, and their respective communities. They travel to different sites along the Mississippi River\, where they engage in dialogue with engineers\, activists\, and Indigenous leaders. The idea was to use filmmaking as a classroom\, and to develop a documentary practice for the climate crisis. As I encourage the young people in my film to notice their surroundings\, they begin to imagine Louisiana’s past — its history of slavery\, Indigenous dispossession\, and colonization — and\, by extension\, Louisiana’s future. The one that they will experience and help to shape. \nFind more information about the film at https://hollowtreefilm.com/ \nSouthern Circuit screenings are funded in part by a grant from South Arts\, a regional arts organization\, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts. For more information about the Southern Circuit\, please visit www.southarts.org/southerncircuit.

SUMMARY:Janice Wyatt Mississippi Summer Arts Institute CORE Camp
DESCRIPTION:What exactly is CORE Arts?\nCORE Arts is a two-week-long\, intensive summer arts program where emerging artists can realize their dreams\, unleash their imagination\, and discover and explore their talents while choosing to stay on DSU’s campus or attend as a day-camper. \nWho’s it for? \nAges 11-18 (rising 7th graders – graduating high school seniors). \nWhat am I getting out of it?\nEach day\, campers will receive wide-ranging and intensive instruction from experienced teaching artists in a variety of art forms\, including dance\, literary arts\, music\, theatre\, and visual arts. Campers customize their schedule by choosing their own course of study in a five-period-per-day format. Courses offer a tremendous opportunity for individual instruction\, with a teacher-student ratio of approximately 1:12. Core Arts promotes the creative abilities of young artists who wish to cultivate and enjoy their artistry. \nWhat will I do there?\nCampers fill out surveys so that we know what types of courses to schedule for upcoming summers\, but we also take into account that new and emerging artistic disciplines like comic book drawing and digital arts are especially popular with our young artists. Courses we have held in the past include dramatic improvisation\, scene and character study\, musical theatre\, hip-hop dance\, introduction to Photoshop\, mixed-media portraiture\, painting with found materials\, web-series development\, and many more! Students will also partake in evening and weekend activities\, which have previously included trips to Memphis to see Broadway performances in Memphis\, professional baseball games in Jackson and Memphis\, guided canoe trips along the Mississippi River\, artist-led tours of Peters Pottery and McCarty Pottery Studios\, and a private tour of the Grammy MS Museum with Karaoke. \n2023 CORE ARTS Day Camp (NON RESIDENTIAL)\nAges 11-18 (Rising 7th graders through graduating high school seniors)\nCost: $1050\, an all-inclusive fee that provides all art supplies\, field trips\, and tickets for activities over the weekend\, admission to GRAMMYMS Museum\, breakfast\, and lunch daily\, an MSAI t-shirt\, water bottle\, and backpack.\n2024 CORE ARTS Camp (RESIDENTIAL) \nCampers will stay on Delta State’s campus in the dorms in the residential option. Students will be dropped off on Sunday\, June 16\, and stay in our residence halls through the final day of camp\, Friday\, June 28\, 2023.\nIn most cases\, campers share a room with another camper.
