SUMMARY:Japanese Film Week 9/24-25 at 6 PM in Jobe Auditorium
DESCRIPTION:Delta State will host a Japanese Film Week with the screenings of the films “Samurai Cat” and “Bento Harassment.” DSU was selected as one of 18 host sites around the country for the two films. “Samurai Cat” (2014) Summary: A charming and hilarious comedy directed by Yoshitaka Yamaguchi\, former assistant director to Takashi Miike. A once-feared swordsman\, Kyutaro Madarame finds himself a penniless and masterless samurai in old Edo (Tokyo)\, Japan. Desperate for money\, he accepts an assassination contract from a local gang. The target: a rival boss’ beloved white cat\, Tamanojo. However\, when Kyutaro lays his eyes on Tamanojo\, his heart melts and he is unable to carry out the deed. Instead\, he escapes with the cat\, invoking the rage of both gangs who now seek to exact their revenge. \nBefore Kyutaro can live his life in peace as a newly-converted “cat person\,” he must face both clans in a final showdown.” “Bento Harassment” (2019) Summary: “Based on a true story\, this is a comedic\, heartwarming film about the love between a mother and daughter told with much laughter and many tears. Futaba is going through a teenage rebellious phase and refuses to speak to her single mother Kaori. Kaori retaliates with “bento harassment” – sending Futaba to school each day with an elaborate home-made box lunch incorporating messages of love and encouragement. Over the next 3 years\, Futaba overcomes her initial embarrassment and comes to appreciate these expressions of the undying support of her mother.” \nAppropriate for ages 10+. Japanese with English subtitles. These events are free and open to the public. The event is sponsored by the International Student Services office and the Japan Foundation New York. For more information\, please contact Michelle Johansen at mjohansen@deltastate.edu or stop by the International Office in Union 200.
