BluesLand Opening

August 13, 2013 @ 6:00 pm

The first exhibition of the fall semester for the University Archives & Museum will open Tuesday evening, 13 August at 6pm with a reception and lecture.

Delta State Alumnus, Easton Selby returns to the Delta with a portion of a collaborative documentary exhibition entitled “BluesLand”.  The combined talents of Selby and fellow photographers Armon Means and John Vincent created the original body of work entitled “Photographic Interpretations: The Culture & Geography of the Blues,” with inspiration from Dr. John Strait’s research which emphasized on examining the space in which we live. Selby states, "As photographers, we are trained from our first day to understand the meaning and intent of the final photograph. We are taught that just because we can look doesn’t necessarily mean that we can see. Through my work, I am trying to connect my disconnect with something I don’t fully understand."

Selby’s work of 20 images will be on display in the Capps Archives & Museum’s main gallery through 31 October.

This event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact University Archivist, Emily Jones at ejones@deltastate.edu or by calling 662.846.4781
