Dear Nannie:<\/p>\n

I cannot tell you how much I regret my having disappointed you; it is much worse than disappointment to me.\u00a0 The boat was in an unusual hurry and tho\u2019 I wrote but a few words, still I was too late to get it aboard. I hope you have thought it some accident of this kind as it would ache me much to have you think me forgetful or less<\/u>, in love<\/u>.\u00a0 I was so happy at the time I could say nothing except the same story of tender feelings for you.\u00a0 Please take this as a remedy.\u00a0 I shall be the happiest mortal alive to see you in B. on the 25th<\/sup> or 26th<\/sup>.\u00a0 This like all my promises I expect to fulfill to the letter, rain or shine. \u00a0Mr. Lee (sister Mary) is in Vicksburg. and thinks of going to B. Monday or Tuesday next.\u00a0 Miss A.M. Jones and Mr. M are down this trip, they think of returning tomorrow evenings.\u00a0 They have some idea of the cause of my visit; tho they are in doubt about the time.\u00a0 Heard this morning of Maggie McLeod\u2019s death in Macon Miss. 12 inst.\u00a0 T\u2019will be sad and very unexpected to Norman.\u00a0 Poor \u201cJosus\u201d came very<\/u> near<\/u> being drowned some days ago in our attempt to cross the bottom coming home.\u00a0 The idea of marrying makes me nervous, you perceive from this botch.<\/p>\n

I declare I\u2019ve had so many nice sweet<\/u> letters from you since I wrote last that I\u2019m actually ashamed to send this, but I\u2019d rather die<\/u> than disappoint you the sec. time.\u00a0 The water is quite high up in our neighborhood tho\u2019 it had fallen slightly the day before I left.\u00a0 All upper rivers reported falling; if true, I\u2019m perfectly safe.\u00a0 Have 6 feet yet.\u00a0 Goodbye \u2013<\/p>\n

All I can say for this note is that I\u2019ve written it \u2013 in much less time that t\u2019will take you to read it.\u00a0 The more I know of you the better I love you.<\/p>\n
