Scope and Content:<\/em><\/p>\n

This collection contains photocopies of the diary of Rebecca Dillman Walt during the period 1854 \u2013 1857.\u00a0 Rebecca Dillman Walt was the wife of Rufus Putnam Walt.\u00a0 Originally from Higginsport, Ohio, she moved south with her husband and lived in Memphis, Tennessee.\u00a0 He operated a mail packet steamer named the Rufus Walt.\u00a0 The diary chronicles the everyday life of an upper middle class woman of the mid 1800\u2019s.\u00a0 She describes her sewing, visiting, attending Church, and her readings on self-improvement and religion.\u00a0 Much of the diary reflects her search to become a better Christian.<\/p>\n
