Biographical Sketch:<\/em>
\nDr. Melbourne Miller was professor of biology at Delta State from 1962 \u2013 1975. While a student
\nat DSTC, Miller served as supervisor, 1936 \u2013 1937, of the National Youth Administration project,
\n“A Plant and Animal Survey of Bolivar County.” Students worked collecting specimens that were
\nhoused in a museum on campus. This first project lasted three months. The second project, set
\nup in 1936 and supervised by Miller, was expanded to include the entire lower Mississippi
\nDelta. This project ended in 1938.<\/p>\n

Scope and Content:<\/em>
\nThis collection consist mainly of photographs of the NYA Project including collected specimens
\nand students at work in the field. In addition there are scanned images from the original
\nphotographs. There is also correspondence and lists of specimens collected and a pamphlet
\nthat was compiled titled “Trees of Bolivar County.”<\/p>\n
