About the MS Delta Chinese Heritage Museum<\/span><\/h2>\n[\/vc_column_text][divider line_type=”Full Width Line” line_thickness=”5″ divider_color=”accent-color”][vc_column_text]Against the backdrop of a rapidly disappearing society and culture, the museum promotes local heritage preservation by actively collecting oral histories, memorabilia, photographs and textile materials related to the history and story of the Mississippi Delta Chinese immigration and settlement. The resources developed from on-going preservation projects will encourage an environment of understanding and appreciation of our ethnic and cultural heterogeneity. The MS Delta Chinese Heritage Museum is located in the Charles W. Capps, Jr. Archives & Museum building on the 3rd floor.<\/p>\n

The history of Chinese culture is rich in the Mississippi delta. From grocery stores to farming the Chinese people are as much a part of the Mississippi delta as the river that waters the fields. Over the years several books have been published on the history of the cultural migration from China. We wish to not replicate what these books have accomplished but to document something else\u2013the food. Over the next year we would like to document through oral histories, film, and still photography the history of the Delta Chinese families through the family recipes and how they changed from one land to the other.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n
