The DMI at Delta State University sits in the very birthplace of world-changing American music. Our Entertainment Industry Studies program teaches students the art and business of pursuing a career in the entertainment industry and we believe the world needs a song now more than ever. THE DELTA MUSIC INSTITUTE BELIEVES IN THE HEALING POWER OF MUSIC.

We are looking for submissions from high school juniors and seniors who dream of careers in the entertainment industry. We welcome song submissions from anyone who meets the criteria below.

Requirements for entry in the DMI SONG CONTEST are as follows:
* Songwriter and/or all co-writers must be between 15-19 years of age and not currently attending Delta State University.
* Song need not be of any particular genre, but must feature both musical and lyrical content.
* Songs must be at least two minutes in length but no more than six minutes.
* Lyrical themes should in SOME WAY (at your creative discretion) reflect the healing and hope that the world needs right now.
* Entries should include an audio recording delivered as an electronic file (MP3, MP4, Wav, or AIFF format) or a link to an online delivery platform (ie. Soundcloud, Songspace, Dropbox, OneDrive, Apple Music, Spotify, etc.). NOTE – the quality of the recording is irrelevant. We will evaluate the SONG and not the performance. A simple voice recording from your phone has just as much chance to win as a fully-produced master recording.
* Songwriters may only submit one song each. If a song is co-written, only the individual candidate submitting the song is eligible for the awards.
* All submissions must be made by 5:00 PM, November 12th, 2021.

Submission Guidelines:
– Submissions should be made at the link below and must include an audio recording and a lyric sheet.
– Songs are not being submitted for publication and the Delta Music Institute will not retain ANY of the ownership rights for the song that you submit.
– 10 Finalists will be announced by 5PM November 19th, 2021. Those 10 songs will then be evaluated by the contest judges which include recording artists, music industry professionals, and DMI faculty.
