2023 Delta State Honor Band Clinic

Students are asked to submit a recorded audition.  To submit your audition materials, please follow the following process:

Say your name very clearly

Say the name of each scale or rudiment before playing it.

Say “Prepared pieces” before playing your prepared pieces.

Say “End of recording.”

 

Submit recording in .mp3 or.wav format only.

 

Recorded auditions must be received by Friday, December 2, 2022

HIGH SCHOOL AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

Winds  

  • Major scales: Concert F, G-flat, G, A-flat, A (at least two octaves when possible), eighth notes at quarter = 120, tongued ascending and slurred descending.
  • Chromatic scale: Full practical range of the instrument.
  • Prepared Piece: Two short etudes of your choice, one technical, one lyrical.

 Percussion

  • Rudiments: Nine-stroke roll and flam paradiddle, performed at quarter = 80, quarter = 120, and quarter  = 160 on a concert snare.
  • Major scales: F, G-flat, G, A-flat, A (at least two octaves).
  • Chromatic Scale: is not required for percussion auditions.
  • Prepared Pieces: one short etude on any combination of snare, mallets, or timpani.

 

MIDDLE SCHOOL AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

Winds 

  • Major scales: C, F, G, Bb and D scales in as may octaves as comfortable. Eighth notes at quarter = 72, tongued ascending and slurred descending.
  • Chromatic scale: one octave, more if possible.
  • Prepared Piece: One etude of your choice. Technical or Lyrical

Percussion

  • Rudiments: Nine-stroke roll, flam, and paradiddle performed at  quarter = 120 and at  quarter  = 80 on a concert snare.
  • Major scales: F, G-flat, G, A-flat, A (at least two octaves).
  • Chromatic Scale: is not required for percussion auditions.
  • Prepared Pieces: one short etude on any combination of snare, mallet, or timpani.
