Welcome!

Delta State University welcomes international students to the Mississippi Delta. Whether you are pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree, we have the right academic program for you. Our goal in International Student Services, a Division of the Student Success Center, is to be a home away from home for our international student body.

Our international advisors help you receive one-on-one assistance, guidance and advice from the very beginning of the application and enrollment process, throughout your time at Delta State, and post-graduation. Delta State University is a public institution with multiple degree programs. Undergraduate programs provide educational opportunities in the Arts and Sciences, Business, Education/Human Sciences, and Nursing. Graduate and Continuing Studies programs include options at the masters, educational specialist, and doctoral levels that provide advanced training in a broad range of disciplines.

How do you classify?

Undergraduate Freshman

Students who have earned a high school diploma but do not have any college credit.

Undergraduate Transfer

Students who have earned some college credit from another college or university.

Graduate

Students who have earned a bachelor’s degree and want to pursue a master’s or doctoral degree.

1. Undergraduate Application

2. Payment Authorization Form

Please complete the Payment Authorization Form, which grants Delta State permission to process credit card information for the following fees:

  • $100 international application fee
  • $50 housing deposit (freshman – required,  transfer – optional; if you would like to live on campus)
  • Expedited Mailing Fee (required; amount unknown until processed by UPS on day of shipping)

Delta State is authorized to process American Express, Discover, Master Card, and Visa credit cards. Delta State cannot process an international debit card, nor will the university accept a wire transfer or bank transfer for the fees listed above.

For tracking purposes, UPS expedited mailing of documents is a requirement for all applicants, including applicants already in the U.S.

3. Non-U.S. Transcript Evaluation

A non-U.S. transcript evaluation with a 2.0 (or above) cumulative GPA on the U.S. 4.0 grading scale is required.

Please request that an official/complete WES or ECE transcript evaluation for each previously attended non-U.S. school/university be submitted directly to Delta State University International Student Services.

4. U.S. Transcript

If you have attended a U.S. university or college, please request an official/final transcript be submitted to Delta State International Student Services either electronically through ESCRIPT or mailed from previous university to:

5. Official ACT or SAT Score Report

An official SAT or ACT score report will need to be submitted from the testing center to Delta State University.

Minimum score requirements:


An SAT or ACT score report is required for:

  • Freshman
  • Transfer from a U.S. university that have not completed all 30 semester hours listed below
    • 6 hours – English Composition
    • 3 hours – College Algebra (or higher math)
    • 6 hours – Laboratory Science
    • 6 hours – Behavioral Science
    • 9 hours – Transferable Academic Electives

An SAT or ACT score is waived for:

  • Transfer from U.S. university with all 30 semester hours listed above and 2.0 (or above) cumulative GPA.
  • Transfer from non-U.S. university with a minimum of one academic year of study with a 2.0 (or above) cumulative GPA.

6. English Language Proficiency Test

An official TOEFL or IELTS score report will need to be submitted from the testing center to Delta State University, International Student Services.


TOEFL

  • Minimum scores accepted:
    • Internet based testing – 70
    • Paper based testing – 525
    • Computer based testing – 196

English language proficiency tests are required for:

  • Freshman or international transfer students from Non-English speaking countries.
  • Transfer students who have not completed 30 semester hour transfer requirement from U.S. university.

English language proficiency tests are waived for:

  • Students from an English speaking country who can provide an official senior certificate or official letter from high school stating that education was completed primarily in the English language.
  • Transfer students that have completed 30 semester hour transfer requirement from U.S. university.

7. Declaration of Financial Support

  • Estimated financial breakdown for one academic year listed on bottom of page 2 of Declaration of Financial Support.
  • You will need to fill out page 1 and sign the bottom of page 2.
  • Whoever agrees to be financially responsible for you while enrolled at Delta State will need to fill out the sponsor section on page 2.
    • Can have up to 2 financial sponsors.
  • This will need to be completed even if you plan to receive a scholarship or other financial assistance.

8. Financial Bank Statement

  • This will need to be an official bank statement for whoever completes financial sponsor section of Declaration of Financial Support.
  • The statement meet all of the following requirements:
    • Show account owner & bank/financial institution’s name and address
    • Show minimum available account balance of 17,789 USD
    • Be current within the 6 months of semester start date
    • Must be signed, stamped, and dated by an official bank representative
    • Clearly list type of currency being used
  • This will need to be submitted and the available account balance must be equal to or greater than 17,789 USD, even if you are planning to receive a scholarship or other financial assistance.

9. Medical Requirements

The following medical documentation is required for university acceptance and creation of I-20:

MMR 1 & 2 immunization record

  • Must verify two separate vaccinations for each of the following: measles, mumps, rubella.
  • Record must be signed and dated by a doctor and translated into English.

TB Chest X-ray

  • The results will need to clearly state that your x-ray had either a “positive” or “negative” result, dated within 1 year of program start date, be signed and dated by the doctor, and translated into English.

Sickle cell test (athletes only)

  • This is required for all student athletes and must be completed prior to arrival at Delta State.
  • The results will need to clearly state either a “positive” or “negative” result, be less than 1 year old, and will need to be signed and dated by the doctor.
  • If the results are not in English, please have them translated.

10. Housing

Undergraduate Housing

  • Required for all international freshmen throughout their first academic year of enrollment.
  • Optional for sophomore, junior and senior international students.

11. International Student Insurance

Requirement for all international students enrolled at DSU:

  • The policy cost $500 per semester and will be posted directly to your student account the beginning of each semester that you are in attendance at DSU.
    • If your program start date is January (spring semester), your 1st insurance payment may be more than the amount listed above because you will need to be covered for an additional month.
    • Please be aware, if you are over 25, your insurance charge will be approximately double the general price. We can offer a private policy through our approved insurance company if you wish to use it instead of the group policy with the higher rate.
  • Coverage begins the first day of your academic program, and you will be covered throughout your enrollment at DSU.

Specific degree programs have specific cumulative undergraduate GPA (UGPA) requirements. Please see the academic program’s degree requirements listed online. An official SAT or ACT score report will need to be submitted from the testing center to Delta State University. Minimum score requirements:

Some academic programs may require an entrance exam such as GMAT, PRAXIS, or GRE. Please see the specific academic program’s website for test/score requirements.
