Ron Koehler was born in Capre Girardeau, Missouri, where he received B.S. Art Ed. and MAT degrees from Southeast Missouri State University. Interest in three-dimensional design led him to pursue an MFA in Sculpture from Memphis State University. Koehler teaches three-dimensional design, sculpture and printmaking.

His current studio interest involves the installation of objects in a "Dadaist" bent reference of mass producing his own ready-made objects. Installations have included as many as a thousand objects. His work is included in many public collections including a permanent installation at the Smithsonian's National Building Museum in Washington, D.C. as part of the John Hechinger "Tools as Art Collection" and the State of Hawaii Foundation on Culture and Arts through the Art in Public Places Program.

He has served as the International President of Kappa Pi International Honorary Art Fraternity since 1998.
