While
the Art Department offers both B. A. (Bachelor of Arts) and B.
F. A. (Bachelor of Fine Arts) degrees, the degree objective of the Art Education
Program is the B. A. with an Art Major and Teacher Licensure. Art Education
students take courses offered by both the Art Department and the College of
Education in addition to the regular General Education requirements. Upon completion
of the program, the student is licensed to teach art in grades K-12.
In
the Art Department, students study Studio Art and Art History giving them a
firm foundation in the content of art. Art Education courses build upon this
content knowledge and incorporate methods of teaching art as well. Studio Art,
Art History, Art Criticism, and Aesthetics are integrated in the Art Education
courses. The program also offers a variety of observational and participatory
experiences in art learning environments including the Wright Gallery, and an
extensive pre-practice internship.
