The Independent Study program is one of the many services offered through Graduate and Continuing Studies at Delta State University. Independent Study courses are offered primarily for student who want to continue their formal education but find it difficult to do so through regular class work on campus. Courses offered through Independent Study are fully accredited through Delta State University and the Southern Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools.
Independent study course content parallels on-campus equivalents, yet provides flexibility in the structure and delivery. Each course is designed around a study guide, textbook, lessons, and exams. Courses by correspondence tend to be reading and writing intensive. Our Independent Study courses are developed and conducted by our faculty and approved by the appropriate academic department.
Independent study requires self-motivation, a conscientious effort, and self discipline. Benefits of independent study include opportunities for a student to learn at their own pace, gain university credit, increase career skills, and enjoy positive learning experiences.
