The Office of Academic Support Services and Developmental Studies contributes to the academic success of students with developmental needs and promotes the academic success of the student body as a whole. This office teaches all sections of the CED 098 and CED 099 courses, identifies and registers students in need of developmental and intermediate coursework, oversees tutors and tutoring conducted in the Academic Support Lab and coordinates and conducts study skills workshops for individual classes and large student audiences. This office also administers the Summer Developmental Program, which offers participants an alternate route to college admission based on IHL mandated guidelines for students who do not meet regular admissions standards. Academic Support Lab (Target Date: 2012-2013 Academic Year)
- Provide free tutoring for all DSU students in both primary subjects and specific academic concentrations
- Increase availability of tutoring and support services through acquisition and expansion of second lab
- Increase student awareness of available academic support services
- Identify and track at-risk students who can benefit from Student Success Center’s L.I.F.E. initiatives.

Developmental Studies (Target Date: 2012-2013 Academic Year)
- Identify at-risk students and meet the needs of these students through a multifaceted approach that promotes that attainment of both academic and personal goals
- Identify and register students with academic deficiencies as well as develop and conduct CED 098 and CED 099 courses
- Develop and coordinate new strategies to promote academic achievement and retention (initially within the CED 098 and CED 099 curriculum, then expanding to all Developmental Studies and the student body as a whole)
- Utilize new and current resources (Academic Support Lab(s), tutoring, tutoring software, Student Success Coaches, etc.) to promote student achievement and Student Success retention initiatives.

Summer Developmental Program (Target Date: Summer 2013)
- Offer participants a rigorous/in-depth curriculum focused on preparation for college-level coursework
- Enrich program with activities to promote attendance at DSU, acclimate participants to rewards and challenges of college life and introduce them to a wide range of educational/career opportunities
- Promote greater participant awareness of Academic Support Services and Student Success Center services available upon successful completion of the program and admission to the university.
