Full admission to Delta State University will be granted to high school graduates who complete one of the following:

Admission Requirements:

  • Complete the CPC with a minimum 3.20 GPA; OR
  • Complete the CPC with a minimum 2.5 GPA and score and at least 16 on the ACT (at least 760 on the SAT); OR
  • Complete the CPC with a class rank in the upper 50% and score at least 16 on the ACT (at least 760 on the SAT); OR
  • Complete the CPC with a minimum 2.0 GPA and score at least 18 on the ACT (at least 860 on the SAT); OR
  • Satisfy the NCAA standards as a full qualifier under Division I guidelines

High School Required Courses:

ENGLISH [4 CREDITS]

MATH [3 CREDITS]
Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry. A fourth class in higher level mathematics is highly recommended.

SCIENCE WITH 2 LABS [3 CREDITS]
Biology, Advanced Biology, Chemistry, Advanced Chemistry, Physics, and Advanced Physics or any science course with comparable rigor and content. One credit unit from a Physical Science course with content at a level that may serve as an introduction to Physics and Chemistry may be used. Two of the courses chosen must be laboratory based.

SOCIAL STUDIES [3 CREDITS]
United States History (1 credit), World History (1 credit), Government (1/2 credit), and Economics (1/2 credit), or Geography (1/2 credit

ADVANCED ELECTIVES [2 CREDITS]
Foreign Language, World Geography, 4th year lab based Science, or 4th year Math

COMPUTER APPLICATIONS [1/2 CREDIT]

PRE-HIGH SCHOOL UNITS
Algebra I, first year Foreign Language, Mississippi Studies, or Computer Applications taken prior to high school will be accepted for admission provided the course content is the same as the high school course.

ENGLISH [4 CREDITS]
Compensatory Reading and Compensatory Writing may not be included

MATH [4 CREDITS]
Includes Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, and any one Credit of comparable rigor and content. (e.g., Advanced Algebra, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus BC, Discrete Mathematics, Probability and Statistics, or AP Statistics).

SCIENCE [4 CREDITS]
Includes Biology I, Chemistry I, and any two Credits of comparable rigor and content. (e.g., Physics, Physical Science, Biology II, Chemistry II, AP Chemistry, Physics II, AP Physics B, AP Physics C - Electricity and Magnetism, and AP Physics C - Mechanics, Botany, Microbiology, or Human Anatomy and Physiology.)

SOCIAL STUDIES [4 CREDITS]
Includes World History, U.S. History, Introduction to World Geography, U.S. Government, Economics, and Mississippi Studies. (Credit earned for a State/Local Government course in any other state may stand in lieu of Mississippi Studies.)

ARTS [1 CREDIT]
Visual and performing arts course meeting the requirements for high school graduation.

ADVANCED ELECTIVES [2 CREDITS]
Foreign Language I and II, Advanced World Geography, or any combination of English, mathematics, or lab-based science courses of comparable rigor and content to those required above.

COMPUTER APPLICATIONS [1/2 CREDIT]
The course should emphasize the computer as a productivity tool. Instruction should include the use of application packages, such as word processing and spreadsheets. The course should also include basic computer terminology and hardware operation.

PRE-HIGH SCHOOL UNITS [1 CREDIT]
Algebra I, first-year foreign language, or MS Studies taken prior to high school will be accepted for admission provided course content is the same as the high school course.


**Admission decisions are based on the completion of the College Prep Curriculum, GPA, and ACT or SAT scores. Students who do not meet the full admission requirements may be admitted after successfully completing the Board approved Summer Developmental Studies Program.**

Requirements

Any student who was not eligible for regular admission and who has not successfully completed the Summer Developmental Program must attend an accredited institution of higher education other than those under the governance of the Board of Trustees and must attain a "C" average (2.0 GPA) on a 4.0 scale, as calculated by the adamitting IHL institution in the following 30 transferable semester credit hours to be eligible to transfer to an IHL institution.:

  • 6 semester hours English Composition
  • 3 semester hours College Algebra, Quantitative Reasoning, or higher level mathematics
  • 6 semester hours Natural Science
  • 9 semester hours Humanities and Fine Arts
  • 6 semester hours of Social or Behavioral Sciences

The Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL) and the State Community and Junior College Board (SCJC) have created an articulation agreement which outlines the minimum courses that will transfer from a Mississippi community/junior college to a state university. A student currently enrolled and actively pursuing a degree at another institution will be permitted to take classes at Delta State University on transient status. Transient student applications require a signed certification form which should be completed and mailed to:

Following are the guidelines for enrolling as a transient student:

  • Students must submit an application for admission, $25 application fee, a letter of good standing with signed approval from the degree seeking institution, and an immunization record.
  • A student who has been admitted as a transient student is not fully admitted to the University.
  • Until earning full admission to the University by meeting the admission standards set forth by the Institutions of Higher Learning, all records, including transcripts, will designate “transient status.”
  • Transient students are subject to University regulations regarding attendance and academic standing.
  • It is the student’s responsibility to verify that coursework completed at Delta State University will transfer to their degree seeking institution.
  • Students will not be allowed to enroll in the following courses in an attempt to satisfy admission requirements: English Composition, College Algebra, and Laboratory based Science.
  • Transient status also applies to online or off-campus courses.

APPLICANTS WITHOUT A HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA:

Applicants who have not graduated from a regionally accredited high school and were not home-schooled must submit qualifying scores on the General Education Development Test (GED) and any transcripts reflecting academic performance in high school. Home-schooled students must present portfolios summarizing his or her home-school education. Submission of scores on the ACT or SAT is strongly encouraged. Applicants may be required, at the discretion of the admitting IHL institution, to appear for an on-campus interview.

APPLICANTS TWENTY-ONE YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER:

An applicant who is at least twenty-one (21) years old and does not meet the regular freshman admission requirements may apply for admission as a non-degree seeking student. Non-degree seeking students may enroll in a maximum of twelve (12) semester hours during a regular term, six (6) semester hours during a five-week summer term, or equivalent hours for alternate terms as determined by the admitting institution. To transition from non-degree-seeking to degree-seeking status, students must satisfactorily complete twelve (12) hours with a “C” or better average in the general education core. Once admitted to a degree program, a maximum of eighteen (18) semester hours credit earned as a nondegree-seeking student may be applied toward a baccalaureate degree, if approved by the dean of the college or school from which the degree is sought.
